Iron Chef Royalties?

Once upon a time, in a land far, far, far away – oh wait…scratch that part, I’ve always been in Canada, lol. Anyways, when I was a wee one, my sister and I used to play Iron Chef . Actually, we invented the competition don’t ya know!? We did! See, since my mother was never around on the weekends (read: she was a partier who had no qualms leaving us alone), my sister and I used to see what was in the cupboard and fridge and based on a few key foods, race to see who could prepare the best dish. We both were the judges and if you have been reading any of my cooking posts as of late here and at IAM, you probably know who usually won (read: not I) . One dish I remember KoolAid Saltines and just as the name implies, they were crackers soaked in a KoolAid mixture. Don’t they sound yummy ;) And no, neither one of us had attended http://atlantaculinary.com, we were just born with the gift of culinary adeptness!

I remember one particular day, we had just started to get all the ingredients out and set the table with my mom’s bestest Avon dishes (I cannot remember their name but they were burgundy chunky things) and we had just started going through the pantry to see what we could put together when my father called wanting to know if we wanted to go putt-putting (my parents were divorced when I was quite young) and he’d be at our place in 15min. I have never seen two mischevious girls cleanup so fast and put everything away so that nobody knew what we were up to…we were pretty good at that. My mother would have had our heads had she known we used her Avon dishes…good thing she doesn’t read my journal :)

Gord loves the Iron Chef! I didn’t even know I had the cooking channel ’til we started dating! Ha!

Ha.That is such a great story. We were in High School before my dad would leave my brother and I alone every weekend. We just invited our friends over for parties every weekend. Ok, I’m off to try to make KoolAid Saltines now
