Alli, Good or Bad? Time Will Tell

I was reading about Alli today…yes I can say I’m interested. If it works, I think it’s cool, except of course for the known side affects, I mean it’s the summer people I wear a lot of white! But yes, I was doing some reading about Alli and how a lot of market research was done on how best to bring it to the public. It is being promoted as a supplement to a healthy lifestyle that can be used for weightloss as well.

Unfortunately it will be sold to those that will think, ‘why bother eating low-fat foods when a drug exists to fight fat for me’ and you know what folks? This is where the news reports of ‘I was in the bathroom for days’ are going to come from. We probably won’t hear from Jane Doe where it actually worked to defer her grabbing for another helping of ice cream knowing of the consequences.

I know there are tons of weight loss blogs out there that see Alli as the worst thing out there and that may be so, but we shall see. I’m not even sure our (Canada) version of the FDA will approve it here in Canada…we don’t have those WOW chips US folks have that have the same disclaimer on the side: ‘could cause anal leakage’. Could being the operative word. One must cover their backside (pun intended) when it comes to disclaimers now a days, else one gets sued.

It’s refreshing to see a neutral response to this drug. As you point out, there are plenty of blogs out there making very negative comments (many without even trying it!). I am using Xenical at the moment, it is prescribed by my doctor. I found it very handy in the early days of my weightloss to stop the binging and eating high fats. I must admit once I overcome the binging I did start forgetting to take the xenical and found I managed just as well without it. I now have the tablets onside for periods where I am not feeling so strong in my weightloss and think there is a chance I might fall off the wagon. It is these times that the drug come in most handy for me because I simply will not risk the side effects.

Hey Girl…

I havent said it on my blog yet, but I got it. Gonna take my first pill this morning. Im nervous!!! lolol Ill let you know!

Hey Jackie, kate from electricvenom.com is trying it…she hasn’t had any issues yet but she is eating within the gram guidelines. I am sorely tempted. Did you drive over?

I bought it last Sunday but I am scared to start it. I also went out and got all no fat and low fat food. Which I have been on all this week. I am going to start it Friday night so that way if I get any side effects I will be at home. I think it will be good for me. It will keep me in line if you know what I mean. I need that. I will let you know how it goes with me.

I am not a huge fan of Alli…because of the possible side effects and more honestly, because of the price. If it didn’t cost an arm and a leg and if it was on the market for longer, I might consider it.

But then again, I think I can get my willpower to be strong enough so that I don’t need to worry about “anal leakage” in order to keep me on course. I know that the pill works because it gets people to eat low or non fat items because of fear of that nasty consequence…and for me, that’s not worth it.

If it works for other people…great, but well…I am not willing to risk it. And, I am sick of shelling out so much money for those pills that are supposed to magically help with weight loss. “Diet and exercise” will from now on be my mantra.

I have been trying Alli since it came out. It seems to be working for me- have been trying to break a weight loss plateau. Most people only get the negative treatment effects IF they don’t follow the eating plan, which is simply a low-fat diet.

The manufacturers are very good about emphasizing the need for a multi-vitamin at night (when you aren’t taking Alli) to counteract the loss of fat-soluble vitamins and minerals during the day.

I’m using it and haven’t had any problems. Then again, I’ve definitely found that taking a pill before my meal has made me opt for low-fat foods to avoid those, er, unpleasant effects. So I’ve kept my fat intake to 15 grams or less per meal, 5 grams or less per snack (with 2 snacks per day).

I’ve lost two pounds in two days. :D

Kudos, Trish, for being able to stand apart from the crowd and give it a chance. No one’s making anyone try it and, as far as I’m concerned, it can be another tool in the arsenal for those trying to get to a healthier weight. (50% greater weight loss is nothing to sneeze at!)

Kate how much does it cost over there? Any side effects yet? I am REALLY leaning towards it.

Hey Denise, you know me…I do what I want to do, not what others want me to or what other expect me to :) Thank you for the kudos!
